This area, once part of East Springbank in the Municipal District of Rocky View, was annexed by the City of Calgary in 1995, laying the foundation for what would become West Springs in 2001. The neighborhood has grown rapidly since its establishment, with the latest extension being Wentworth, which stretches west of 85th Street and delves into the beautiful aspen parkland.

According to the 2019 municipal census, West Springs had a population of 10,758, a significant increase from earlier years.
