The area predominantly features condominiums and apartments, accounting for 85.8% of its buildings, and a significant majority (83%) of the housing stock is used for renting. History

Established in 1910 after its annexation in 1907, Sunalta was once part of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s landholdings. Its development was influenced by the railway, and over time, it has transformed into a residential area with a comprehensive area redevelopment plan to guide its growth.

As of the 2019 municipal census, Sunalta had a population of 3,239 living in a dense configuration of 2,165 dwellings. The neighborhood experienced a slight increase in population from the 2011 census, indicating a stable growth pattern.

Sunalta is served by Sunalta Elementary public school, providing education to the younger members of the community. Additionally, Sacred Heart Elementary school offers another option for publicly funded elementary education.
