History
Established in 1986, Shawnee Slopes was named after the Shawnee native people, paying homage to the area’s indigenous roots. Represented by Ward 13 councillors in the Calgary City Council, the community has a strong voice in local governance, ensuring that residents’ needs and concerns are addressed.
Shawnee Slopes Golf Course
The Shawnee Slopes Golf Course, once a central amenity of the neighborhood, served as a primary recreational outlet for both residents and the general public. However, on October 2, 2011, the golf course was permanently closed, marking the end of an era for the community. In 2013, the city council approved the redevelopment of the golf course lands, introducing 1,400 new homes to Shawnee Slopes and invigorating the community with fresh opportunities for growth.
