McKenzie Towne is a master-planned residential neighbourhood situated in the southeast of Calgary, Alberta. Developed by Carma Developers LP, now known as Brookfield Residential Properties Inc., the community showcases a blend of traditional and modern living.
Location and Geography
The community of McKenzie Towne is located at 50°54′49″N 113°58′9″W, spanning across an area of 4.3 km² (1.7 sq mi). It is bordered by Deerfoot Trail to the west, Stoney Trail to the south, 52 St. S.E. to the east, and the South Trail regional commercial centre along 130 Ave. S.E. to the north. Sitting at an elevation of 1,030 m (3,380 ft), the area enjoys picturesque views and a serene environment.
Recreation
The community is renowned for its recreational features, including the McKenzie Towne Hall, operated by the McKenzie Towne Council. Facilities at the hall include a gymnasium, meeting rooms, banquet facilities, and a private outdoor park area. The community is home to a network of paved pathways, parks, and green spaces, as well as a fountain and splash park, an outdoor hockey rink, and a skate park.
Education
McKenzie Towne offers educational facilities within its boundaries, including one separate school board elementary school and a public elementary school. For higher levels of education, the community has McKenzie Highlands School (5-9) and St. Albert The Great (K-9).

The community is divided into four areas: Inverness, Elgin, Prestwick, and High Street, each offering distinct architectural styles. Elgin showcases European-inspired architecture, while Prestwick and Inverness feature styles like Queen Anne, Georgian, Craftsman, and National. High Street serves as the commercial hub, with street-oriented businesses and larger retail tenants.
Demographics
As of the 2012 municipal census, the population of McKenzie Towne was 16,102, residing in 6,783 dwellings—a 4.6% increase from the 2011 population of 15,395. The community had a population density of 3,350/km² (8,690/sq mi). The median household income was $75,325 in 2000, with 4.6% of residents living with low income. About 11.9% of residents were immigrants, and 8.9% of buildings were condominiums or apartments, with 4% of the housing available for rent.
