Geographical Location and Connectivity
Situated southwest of the high-density Beltline district, Bankview is a well-connected neighbourhood, bordered by 17th Avenue SW to the north, 26th Avenue SW to the south, 14th Street SW to the east, and 19th Street SW to the west. With an elevation of 1,075 meters (3,527 feet), residents enjoy scenic views, including glimpses of the Rocky Mountains.
A Peek into History
The area was initially purchased in 1882 by William Nimmons from the Hudson’s Bay Company for ranching and farming activities, including the establishment of the 3-D-Bar Ranch. Over time, the land was divided and sold, especially during the housing boom in the early 1900s. Established as a neighbourhood in 1908, Bankview underwent a significant redesign in 1950 to accommodate high-density apartment buildings. The community now has an area redevelopment plan in place.

As of the 2012 municipal census, Bankview had a population of 5,221, a 9.8% increase from 2011. Covering a land area of 0.7 km² (0.27 square miles), it had a population density of 7,500/km² (19,300/sq mi). The median household income was $32,474 in 2000, and about 31.4% of residents were considered low-income. A significant percentage of the population, 18.4%, are immigrants, making Bankview a culturally diverse area.
