An Inspired Beginning
Established in 1992, Arbour Lake took its name from Arbor Lake in Newport Beach, California. The community offers not just a place to live, but a lifestyle enriched by a picturesque lake that serves as its focal point.
Demographics and Community Life
According to the 2012 municipal census, Arbour Lake had a population of 10,836, living in 3,918 dwellings—a modest 0.7% increase from the previous year. Spanning over 4.4 km² (1.7 square miles), the area has a population density of 2,463 people per km², offering a balance between open space and community closeness.
In terms of income, the community presents a comfortable economic landscape with a median household income of $70,590, as of 2000. Only 7.4% of the population falls under the low-income bracket, and immigrants make up about 25.1% of the community, reflecting a diverse demographic.
Housing and Infrastructure
Arbour Lake is primarily residential with a majority of single-family homes. However, condominiums and apartments make up about 8.7% of the buildings, and 4.1% of housing is used for renting. This indicates a predominantly owner-occupied community with some options for renters and those interested in communal living.
Education: A Focus on the Future
Education is a cornerstone in Arbour Lake, which hosts one public middle school—Arbour Lake Middle School (Grades 5-9)—and one high school, Robert Thirsk High School (Grades 10-12). The latter opened its doors in September 2013. Additionally, St. Ambrose Elementary/Jr. High (K-9) serves as the community’s Catholic school, making the neighbourhood attractive for families with children in different age groups.
A Lifestyle by the Lake
What truly sets Arbour Lake apart is its namesake—a beautiful lake that provides recreational opportunities for residents, enhancing not just the aesthetic value of the area, but also its lifestyle quotient. Whether it’s a peaceful paddleboat ride or a family picnic by the shore, the lake serves as a natural gathering point, strengthening the community bond.
